Why children’s skin needs extra care

Because their skin barrier is still developing, children’s skin is softer, thinner, and more delicate than adult skin which makes it more vulnerable to dryness and irritation. It can also lose moisture faster and react more strongly to soaps, fabrics, or temperature changes.

How children’s skin differs

The outer layer is around 30% thinner than an adult. It produces less natural oil, so it dries out quickly. The skin barrier is more permeable, meaning irritants can pass through more easily.

Common triggers for dryness

  • Frequent bathing or over-washing
  • Harsh soaps, bubble baths, or fragranced wipes (particularly those containing SLS)
  • Cold, windy weather and central heating
  • Rough clothing materials or synthetic fabrics
